What is Postnatal yoga?

As a new mother, it is not usual to feel vulnerable, both emotionally and physically. You grew and birthed a baby, and are now working hard to keep this little human alive. Your hormones are on a rollercoaster, your brain has been altered throughout pregnancy, so you may feel like an altered version of yourself.

From 6 to 8 weeks postpartum, postnatal yoga is a great way to regain strength and stamina after giving birth, soothe the nervous system (which is on arousal the vast majority of the time), and can easily include baby.

Pregnancy and childbirth are physiologically tough for the body.
During pregnancy, abdominal muscles are pushed out to the side to make room for baby, and baby's weight add pressure on your pelvic floor, legs and feet.
We use yoga to help re-build body strength, release tight parts , and, of course relax, by using safe postures and simple breathing exercises.

I will guide you through a balanced mixture of gentle stretches and strengthening poses, in order to build strength and relieve any discomfort you may have. Whilst working with your own goals, a post-natal yoga session includes working on your pelvic floor and core recovery, releasing your neck and shoulders (to ease from breastfeeding /bottle feeding and sleeping postures), and strengthening upper and lower parts of your body (to keep you strong to lift and carry your growing baby).

During the session, your baby can be next to your mat, awake or sleeping, or be a part of the practice.
